Ukraine claims to have killed another Russian general
Another Russian general has been killed, according to the Ukrainian army's general staff. "An enemy helicopter was set on fire in Kherson," said Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov.
"Russia's Lieutenant General Andrei Mordovich, the commander of Russia's Eighth Guards, has been killed," Ukraine's General Staff said shortly afterwards.
Ukraine has so far claimed responsibility for the assassination of five Russian generals. However, US media reported on CNN that they could not independently verify the matter.Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk has claimed that 527 Russian troops have been detained in the 24 days since the start of the operation.
"All Russian prisoners of war are being treated in accordance with international human rights law," he said.
Ukraine, meanwhile, has claimed that thousands of Russian troops have been killed. President Zelensky himself has made similar demands several times. Ukraine says Russia has lost four major generals in the operation.
Zelensky also said in a speech on Saturday night that the Russian army, which had suffered heavy casualties, had not been able to recover the bodies of its slain comrades.
"Especially in areas where fighting is taking place, our comrades are not able to collect the bodies of the Russian soldiers under our defense," he said.
