Zelensky bans 11 political parties in Ukraine
Russia, the world's second-largest power, has been conducting military operations in Ukraine since the dawn of February 24. Meanwhile, Russian troops have captured several Ukrainian cities. In such a scenario, President Volodymyr Zelensky has imposed restrictions on the activities of 11 political parties in Ukraine.
Several political parties have been accused of having ties to Russia. This information was given by the British media BBC in a report on Sunday (March 20) .
In a video message released on Saturday night, Zelensky announced the sanctions against political parties, the report said. Among the political parties banned by the Ukrainian president is the anti-government platform 'For Life'. The party has representatives in the Ukrainian parliament and is one of the largest pro-Russian Ukrainian parties.Other parties in Ukraine's opposition bloc include the Party of Sharia, Hours, the Left Opposition, the Union of Left Forces, the State, the Progressive Socialist Party of Ukraine, the Socialist Party of Ukraine, the Socialists and Vladimir.
The BBC says Ukraine's justice ministry will take immediate action to enforce the sanctions following President Zelensky's announcement.
In a video message on Saturday night, Zelensky said sanctions against pro-Russian political parties would remain in place as long as martial law was in place.
