করোনাভাইরাসে সারা বিশ্বে মৃত্যু হয়েছে ৩০ লাখ ৫৭ হাজারের বেশি মানুষের। আক্রান্তের সংখ্যা ছাড়িয়েছে ১৪ কোটি ৩৫ লাখের বেশি। বিশ্বে এখন পর্যন্ত করোনাভাইরাসে আক্রান্ত শনাক্ত হয়েছেন ১৪ কোটি ৩৫ লাখ ৪২ হাজার ৫৫০ জন। আক্রান্ত হয়ে মৃত্যু হয়েছে ৩০ লাখ ৫৭ হাজার ৫৪১ জনের। এখন পর্যন্ত করোনাভাইরাস সৃষ্ট মহামারি কোভিড-১৯ থেকে সুস্থ হয়েছেন ১২ কোটি ১৮ লাখ ৯৬ হাজার ১৫৭ জন।
সারাবিশ্বের অন্যান্য দেশের ন্যায় বাংলাদেশেও বাড়ছে করোনায় আক্রান্ত ও মৃতের সংখ্যা। করোনা কখন হবে, কার হবে কেউ জানে না। নিয়ম মেনে ঘরে বসে থাকলেই যে রক্ষা পাওয়া পাওয়া যাবে, এমনও নয়। এদিকে, করোনার চিকিৎসা নিয়েওরয়েছে প্রচুর ভোগান্তি।
সরকারি হাসপাতালে সহজে জায়গা পাওয়া যায় না। বেসরকারি হাসপাতালের খরচ বেলাগাম, স্থান পাওয়াও দুষ্কর। ফলে যাদের করোনা রিপোর্ট পজিটিভ কিন্তু উপসর্গ তেমন নেই বা হালকা থেকে মাঝারি উপসর্গ আছে তাদের ঘরেই আর সবার থেকে আলাদা করে আইসোলেশনে থাকতে বলা হচ্ছে। সঙ্গে চলছে চিকিৎসা ও নজরদারি।

কোভিড-১৯ পজিটিভ হওয়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে প্রথমে নিজেকে একটি ঘরে লক করুন। বাড়িতে থাকুন এবং জরুরি অবস্থা না থাকলে বাড়ি ছেড়ে বের হবেন না। এমনকি যদি আপনি কোনও সংক্রামিত ব্যক্তির সংস্পর্শে আসেন তবে ১৪ দিনের জন্য নিজেকে আলাদা করে দিন। এই সময়ে বাড়ির অন্যান্য সদস্যদের থেকে দূরত্ব বজায় রাখুন।

সংক্রামিত ব্যক্তিকে রান্নাঘরে যেতে দেওয়া হয় না। তবে সেই ব্যক্তি যদি ঘরে একা থাকে বা তিনি নিজে রান্নাঘরের দায়িত্ব নিতে হয় সে ক্ষেত্রে রান্না করে খেতে হবে নিজেকে। বিশেষজ্ঞরা অবশ্য রোগীর ঘরে খাবার দিতেই পরামর্শ দিয়ে থাকেন।
বাথরুম ব্যবহার কেমন করে করবেন?
করোনা রোগীর সবসময় আলাদা বাথরুম ব্যবহার করা উচিত। ঘরে যদি অন্য কোনও ওয়াশরুম না থাকে তবে রোগীর ব্যবহারের পরে ওয়াশরুমটি ভালো করে পরিষ্কার করুন। সবার ব্যবহারের পর তাকে ব্যবহার করতে দিন।
প্রচুর পরিমাণে পানি পান করুন
এখন আপনি আলাদা ঘরে রয়েছেন, আপনার নিজের যত্নও নিতে হবে। এই কঠিন সময়ে নিজেকে হাইড্রেট করতে প্রচুর পরিমাণে পানি পান করুন এবং তরল জাতীয় খাবার খান। যতটা সম্ভব গরম পানি পান করুন। ধূমপান এবং অ্যালকোহল এড়িয়ে চলুন।

মজার ব্যাপার হচ্ছে- ওই গ্রামের মানুষ বেশ সচেতন ও সৌখিন। তারা গায়ে কাপড়ের কোন পোশাক না পরলেও রোদ থেকে চোখ বাঁচাতে সানগ্লাস ঠিকই ব্যবহার করেন। গলায় স্বর্নের চেইন এমনকি আঙ্গুলে আংটিও পরেন শখ করে। গ্রামের ভেতর বেশ সমৃদ্ধ বারও আছে। শুধু পোশাকই নেই গায়ে।
মোর-৪ নামের একটি টিভি চ্যানেল সেই গ্রামের বাসিন্দাদের দৈনন্দিন জীবনযাত্রা নিয়ে একটি ধারাবাহিক ডকুমেন্টরি তৈরি করছে। এর ফলেই নতুন করে আলোচনায় চলে আসে স্পিলপ্লাজ।

Turkey's driverless electric bus, surprise the world
Turkey surprised the world by testing its own driverless electric bus. তবে ঠিক কী কারণে এই গ্রহাণু আসে পৃথিবীর কক্ষপথে? বিজ্ঞানীরা বলছেন পৃথিবী, চাঁদ এবং সূর্যের মাধ্যাকর্ষণের মিলিত প্রতিক্রিয়ায় এ রকম ঘটনা ঘটতে পারে। জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞানীদের অনুমান বিগত তিন বছর ধরে পৃথিবীর কক্ষপথে ঘুরছে ২০২০সিডি৩। ২০২০ সালের অক্টোবর থেকে ২০২১-এর মে মাসের মধ্যে ফের কক্ষপথ পালটে ফেলবে, এমন ধারণাও করেছিলেন মহাকাশ বিজ্ঞানীরা। অনুমান করা হয়েছিল আগামী বছরের শুরুতে পৃথিবীর আরও কাছে এসে পড়ার সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে গ্রহাণুটির।
তবে নাসার সেন্টার ফর নিয়ার আর্থ অবজেক্ট-এর বিজ্ঞানী পল চোডাস অবশ্য প্রথম থেকেই অনুমান করেছিলেন এটি মহাজাগতিক কিছু নাও হতে পারে। বস্তুটি সম্ভবত ১৯৬০-এর দশকের পুরনো কোনও বুস্টার রকেট। দেখা গেল তার কথাই সত্যি হল!

অনেকগুলি পায়ের ছাপের জীবাশ্ম পেয়েছেন নৃতত্ত্ববিদরা। তবে তারা জানান, সবক'টি পায়ের ছাপই পরস্পরের সঙ্গে মিলে যায়। এবং পরীক্ষা করে তারা বুঝতে পেরেছেন, ওই সব জীবাশ্মের মধ্যে রয়েছে পূর্ণবয়স্ক এক পুরুষ, প্রাপ্তবয়স্কা এক নারী এবং এক শিশুর পদচিহ্ন। নৃতত্ত্ববিদরা বলছেন, ওই মানুষগুলি খুব তাড়াহুড়ার মধ্যে ছিলেন।

কানাডায় বিলুপ্ত প্রাণী ডাইনোসরের কঙ্কাল আবিষ্কার করলো নাথান হারশকিন নামের এক ১২ বছরের এক শিশু। বিজ্ঞানীদের ধারণা এটি অন্তত ৬ কোটি ৯০ লাখ বছর আগের কঙ্কাল। খবর বিবিসির।
শিশুটি জানায়, তার বাবার সাথে পাহাড়ি এলাকা আলবার্টায় বেড়াতে গিয়ে গত জুলাইতে কঙ্কাল সদৃশ বস্তু দেখতে পায়। এ ঘটনা জানানো হয় রয়েল টাইরেল জাদুঘর কর্তৃপক্ষকে। সেই কঙ্কালের ছবি এবং ঠিকানা নিয়ে জায়গাটিতে একদল গবেষক পাঠায় তারা। দীর্ঘদিনের উদ্ধার অভিযান শেষ হয় গতকাল বৃহস্পতিবার। সেখান থেকে উদ্ধার করা হয় ৩০ থেকে ৫০টি হাড়।
গবেষক দল বলছে, ডাইনোসরটি ৩ থেকে ৪ বছর বয়সী ছিলো। এর আগে উদ্ধার হওয়া একটি ডাইনোসরের কঙ্কাল নিলামে বিক্রি হয় ৪০ লাখ ডলারে।

৬২৮ খ্রিস্টাব্দে সেন্ট ক্যাথরিন গির্জার একজন প্রতিনিধি মহানবী (সা.) এর সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করে সুরক্ষা প্রদানের অনুরোধ করেন। মহানবী (সা.) ওই প্রতিনিধিকে তার সম্প্রদায়ের বিশেষাধিকারের সংবলিত একটি অঙ্গীকারনামা প্রদান করেন। সেন্ট ক্যাথরিন গির্জা মিসরের সিনাই উপত্যকার পাদদেশে অবস্থিত। বেশ পুরনো হওয়ায় এটি এখন বিশ্ব ঐতিহ্য ঘোষিত স্থান। সেন্ট ক্যাথরিন গির্জায় প্রায় ১৪০০ বছর ধরে ধরে রক্ষিত আছে বহু প্রাচীন দলিল ও নথিপত্র। ধারণা করা হয়, ভ্যাটিকানের পর সেন্ট ক্যাথরিন প্রাচীনতম পাণ্ডুলিপি সংরক্ষণের জন্য বিখ্যাত। সেখানেই আছে ৬২৮ খ্রিস্টাব্দে লেখা সন্ন্যাসীদের উদ্দেশে লেখা মহানবী (সা.)-এর একটি চিঠির অনুলিপি। ঐতিহাসিক ওই অঙ্গীকারনামায় মহানবী (সা.) খ্রিস্টানদের বিশেষাধিকারের সনদ প্রদান করেছেন এবং মুসলিম সমাজে বসবাসকারী খ্রিস্টানদের নিরাপত্তা প্রদানের নির্দেশনা দিয়েছেন। ঐতিহাসিক সেই অঙ্গীকারনামার অনুবাদ নিচে তুলে ধরা হলো-
‘এটি মুহাম্মদ ইবনে আবদুল্লাহর পক্ষ থেকে বার্তা তাদের প্রতি, যারা চুক্তির অংশ হিসেবে খ্রিস্টবাদ ধারণ করে; তারা কাছের হোক বা দূরের আমরা তাদের সঙ্গে আছি। প্রকৃতপক্ষে আমি, দাসরা, সাহায্যকারী ও আমার অনুসারীরা তাদের রক্ষা করবে। কেননা খ্রিস্টানরা আমার নাগরিক। আল্লাহর কসম! আমি এমন সব কর্মকাণ্ডের বিরুদ্ধে, যা তারা অপছন্দ করে। তাদের ওপর বিশেষ কোনো বিধি-নিষেধ থাকবে না। তাদের বিচারকদের চাকরিচ্যুত করা হবে না এবং তাদের সন্ন্যাসীদের গির্জাগুলো থেকে তাড়িয়ে দেওয়া হবে না। কেউ তাদের ধর্মীয় স্থাপনা ধ্বংস করবে না, ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত করবে না অথবা মুসলিমদের জন্য তা থেকে কোনো কিছু ছিনিয়ে আনবে না। কেউ এমনটি করলে সে আল্লাহর সঙ্গে কৃত অঙ্গীকার ভঙ্গ করল এবং তার নবীর অবাধ্য হলো। নিশ্চয়ই তারা আমার মিত্র এবং তারা যেসব বিষয় ঘৃণা করে আমি তার বিরুদ্ধে নিরাপত্তা সনদ দিচ্ছি। কেউ তাদের ভ্রমণে বা যুদ্ধে অংশগ্রহণে বাধ্য করবে না; বরং মুসলিমরা তাদের জন্য যুদ্ধ করবে। কোনো খ্রিস্টান নারীর অনুমতি ছাড়া কোনো মুসলিম তাকে বিয়ে করতে পারবে না। (বিয়ের পর) প্রার্থনার জন্য তাকে চার্চে যেতে বাধা দেওয়া যাবে না। খ্রিস্টানদের চার্চের প্রতি সম্মান প্রদর্শন করা হবে। কেউ চার্চ সংস্কার বা তার পবিত্রতা রক্ষায় বাধা দেবে না। কোনো মুসলিম কিয়ামত পর্যন্ত এই অঙ্গীকারনামার অবাধ্য হবে না।’
নোরার শরীরে 'আপত্তিকর' স্পর্শের সেই ভাইরাল ভিডিও ভুয়া
অভিনেত্রী নোরা ফতেহি ও কোরিওগ্রাফার টেরেন্স লুইসের একটি ভিডিও সম্প্রতি নেট দুনিয়ায় ছড়িয়ে পড়ে। একটি নাচের রিয়েলিটি শোয়ে দুজনে বিচারকের আসনে রয়েছেন। ভাইরাল সেই ভিডিওতে নোরাকে আপত্তিকর ভাবে স্পর্শ করতে দেখা যায় টেরেন্সকে।
এরপরই নেটিজেনদের রোষানলেন পড়েন তিনি। অবশেষে এই বিষয়ে মুখ খুললেন টেরেন্স। যে ভিডিওটি ভাইরাল হয় সেখানে দেখা যাচ্ছিল, নোরার নিতম্ব স্পর্শ করছেন টেরেন্স। এই ভিডিও ছড়িয়ে পড়তেই নেটিজেনরা আক্রমণ করেন টেরেন্সকে। যদিও প্রতিক্রিয়া স্বরূপ কিছুই করেননি নোরা ফতেহি। তখনই প্রশ্ন ওঠে, তাহলে কি এই ভিডিও আসলেই কি সত্য, নাকি প্রযুক্তির সাহায্য নিয়ে এমন একটি ভিডিও তৈরি করা হয়েছে। কারণ এভাবে কাউকে স্পর্শ করলে সঙ্গে সঙ্গে প্রতিক্রিয়া প্রকাশ পাওয়াই স্বাভাবিক।

Apple Does Not Need to Return Fortnite to App Store, Judge Rules

The game has been booted from Apple’s App Store and will stay banned.Credit...Brian Finke for The New York TimesSAN FRANCISCO — A federal judge ruled on Friday that Apple did not need to reinstate the popular video game Fortnite in its App Store, in a blow to Fortnite’s parent company, Epic Games, which is locked in an antitrust battle with the tech giant over its app store fees and rules.
Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers of the Northern District of California said in her ruling that Apple’s ban of the game could continue because Epic had violated its contract with Apple. There is “significant public interest” in requiring companies to adhere to contracts or resolve disputes through the normal course, she wrote.
But Judge Gonzales Rogers also said that Apple could not ban Unreal Engine, Epic’s developer tools, from its platforms because of the “potential significant damage to both developers and gamers” who rely on the software.
The mixed ruling showed the high cost of taking on a tech behemoth like Apple, even for an established company like Epic. The 116 million people who have accessed Fortnite through Apple’s systems will continue to be kept away while Epic and Apple prepare for a trial in the case, which is scheduled for May.
An Epic spokeswoman said the company “is grateful that Apple will continue to be barred from retaliating against Unreal Engine and our game development customers.” Epic will continue developing for Apple’s platforms and “pursue all avenues to end Apple’s anti-competitive behavior,” she said.
An Apple spokesman said the company was grateful that the court “recognized that Epic’s actions were not in the best interests of its own customers and that any problems they may have encountered were of their own making when they breached their agreement.” The spokesman added that Apple’s app store has been “an economic miracle” that has created “transformative business opportunities” for developers.
Epic’s battle with Apple comes as the largest tech companies face scrutiny of their power. On Tuesday, House lawmakers said Apple, Amazon, Facebook and Google had exercised and abused their monopoly power to stifle competition and harm consumers and recommended that the companies be restructured. European regulators have also opened an investigation into whether Apple’s app store rules are anticompetitive. And in the coming days, the Justice Department is expected to sue Google over anticompetitive search practices.
At the heart of Epic’s case is Apple’s and Google’s tight grip over smartphone apps in their app stores. Both companies require that developers use their payment systems and pay a 30 percent cut of any money they make in their apps.
“They think they can just decide arbitrarily what apps can exist, and what fees can be charged, and tax all commerce,” Tim Sweeney, Epic’s chief executive, said in an interview last month. “We came gradually to the realization that we had to fight this, not just by words, but also by really broad actions.”
Epic has said it wants Apple to change its requirements that apps use its payment system and shell out a 30 percent fee. It also wants to operate its own app store within Apple’s.
Apple later also cut off its support for Unreal Engine, Epic’s software development tool that is used by thousands of game makers. Judge Gonzalez Rogers said on Friday that Apple must continue supporting Unreal Engine and could not retaliate against any of Epic’s other affiliated apps or products.
The fight has escalated over the past few weeks. Apple has accused Epic of seeking a special deal for itself, while Epic has accused Apple of cherry-picking out-of-context emails in its legal response.
Other companies have used the battle to criticize Apple. Microsoft filed a declaration in support of Epic and has announced a set of developer-friendly principles for its own app store. Facebook has also recently called out Apple’s 30 percent app fees.
Smaller app makers, normally wary of angering the tech giants, have found strength in numbers. In September, more than a dozen of them, including the music streaming service Spotify, the dating service Match Group and the Bluetooth tracking device maker Tile, formed a nonprofit group called Coalition for App Fairness to push for changes to the app stores.
In a hearing last month, Apple said it was willing to reinstate Fortnite to its app store before a trial if Epic would return to complying with its rules. Judge Gonzalez Rogers proposed an arrangement that would put Apple’s fees from Fortnite in an escrow account until after the trial. But Epic refused, arguing that doing so would be complying with a contract it views as unlawful.
“I didn’t buy that argument before,” Judge Gonzalez Rogers said in the hearing. “I’m not particularly impressed with it now.”

I was one of the last of the BlackBerry users and only recently gave up the latest BlackBerry phone because it was just too far out of date. While I'm still missing the keyboard a bit, what I really miss was the business focus of the device.
When the market pivoted from phones like the Palm, Microsoft, and Research In Motion (BlackBerry) devices, to the Android and iOS devices, we lost something. Mostly we lost a lot of time. We should have been focusing on work instead of distractions; and while streamed content is fun, it tends to consume our resources, i.e. time and money. At the same time, the old business standard arguably was more focused on helping us make more money and advance in our careers.
To me, and I realize that I'm not in the majority here, it is more important to focus on increasing my income and productivity than it is to focus on increasing my distractions and eating up both my free and work time.
I think Microsoft had it right when they ran this ad campaign for their old Microsoft phone, arguing that folks should take their nose out of their phones and experience life:
For me, a phone should predominantly be a way to communicate, but we communicate far differently now, and the apps we use to communicate seem to prefer larger screens; and that takes us to the Duo, which has twin screens and is very different from the foldable phones with which it will compete.
New Ways of Doing Things
The Microsoft Surface Duo is a very different phone, which means it has a learning curve. For instance, to use it as a phone, you need to flip it open, pivot the screen around to the back, and put the screen with the camera above it next to your ear (and this also automatically answers the phone).
This configuration makes the device much better when you are using earbuds or one of the few Android smartwatches, like the latest generation Diesel smartwatch. It runs Android with a Microsoft UI, and it does take some retraining. Learning the unique gestures makes it a ton more fun to use, but at first, it's a little frustrating because it's different.
Now, what this device is particularly good at is reading books, doing email, and Microsoft Teams calls. In all three cases, the foldable screen makes the device substantially more efficient.
For reading books: You get two pages (when you put it in two-page mode), which makes it feel pretty close to a small paperback.
For email: You get the list of messages on one screen and what is in the highlighted message on the other. This makes going through email far more efficient.
For Microsoft Teams: You get the video conference on one screen and another function on the other screen, like the chat window, or PowerPoint; allowing you to work with the phone similarly to how you likely work with your personal computer.
The phone uses glass for its case, and it comes with rubber bumpers in the box: USE THEM. I didn't. I dropped the phone and cracked the case. It still works fine, and the rubber bumper covers most of the crack, but I wish I'd put on the rubber bumpers before I started using the phone.
Applications work as they would on any phone, but you can tent this phone much as you can a convertible laptop and prop it on your desk or table to watch a video, so you don't have to hold the phone. Unlike a foldable phone, however, doing a video using both screens is annoying because of the break in the middle. I'm ok with this, but some may want a larger screen experience.
Surface Duo comes with 128 or 256 GB, and the difference in price is US$100, so I'd go with the extra storage for the money. The base price is $1,399, so this isn't a cheap date, and I'd suggest you play with one for a bit before picking it up. Also, this is a Generation 1 product, so if you don't like being an early adopter, you may be better off waiting for the Generation 2 or 3 version -- and the next generation should have 5G and Wi-Fi 6.
The phone doesn't have wireless charging, which I do miss a little, and it doesn't have 5G or Wi-Fi 6, but given 5G isn't deployed yet where I live, and it is a phone, I'm not missing the shortcoming, but I might if 5G was available. My laptop is Wi-Fi 6, and I need it for larger files, but picture uploads are fast with Wi-Fi 5, and this Duo does support 4x4 MIMO. It has a decent camera, and rather than switching from the front camera to back, you fold the screen over to take a picture or leave it in book form to take a selfie.
But I love the thing, and it is my new favorite phone.
Wrapping Up: Why This Phone Fits Me
I'm a reader. I read a lot of books. I don't play video games on my phone. I have PCs and game systems for that, and I'm used to using a headset, my watch, or earbuds for calls.
As a book reader, the Surface Duo is incredible. Outlook on the phone is similar to the experience on my laptop. I typically carry a phone and a tablet, and I've found that now with this Surface Duo, I'm down to carrying only the phone. I even read with it in bed at night and only go to the tablet if my charge starts running low.
This form factor also fits how I'm using the phone at home, mostly to stay connected when I'm away from my desk and to read from when I have some downtime. It resides in my back pocket, so I always have it with me; and if I have to run an errand or go someplace where I have to wait (like to pick up dinner), I have my best reader in hand.
The Surface Duo phone is worth checking out, and for people like me, it may be worth it. However, once again, it is a first-generation device and it will likely change a lot over the next two generations. So for those that like something a bit more cooked, you'll want to wait for Generation 2 or 3. But for me, Generation 1 is where I live; and, as an analyst, pain is my middle name.
Seriously, I'm having a ton of fun with this phone and, if you are a heavy ebook reader, this could be just the phone for you. It is for me.
The Nvidia RTX 30 series has pushed the graphics envelope significantly, but, as I mentioned last week, the significant advantage is that it significantly enhances other things you need to do while working from home.
Nvidia Broadcast allows you to create a much better video image of yourself. Virtual backgrounds look more real, active noise cancellation virtually eliminates background noise, and you can dynamically place your image inside the content you are sharing.
All of this makes you present better to the folks you are virtually meeting with, and that can make a huge difference. This week I was doing a call with a VP, and he was having all kinds of video and sound issues that this card could have mitigated. Granted, right now this is a desktop PC-only solution, but I find I live on my desktop PC when I'm working from home.
I continue to think that this is the new battleground for graphics, and Qualcomm and Intel are on this same page concerning providing enhancements. But I love it when an OEM thinks out of the box and starts working on problems that are outside of their standard field.
Nvidia is all about graphics performance, and this new card line should be stunning for that.
Nvidia RTX 3080 and 3090 Graphics Cards
Not everyone games, but right now most of us are meeting online, and improving that experience is likely far higher on our needs list than better game playing. Though I should mention that these new cards also reduce latency significantly, so for those of you who are gamers and like first-person shooters, this could be your ticket to more wins.
In any case, I use a desktop computer and I live on video calls right now. This card family hits me where I live -- which makes the Nvidia RTX 30 Series my product of the week.
